In coaxing Ted Lasso out of the wilderness to save it from the drop, Apple TV has pressed the streaming equivalent of the David Moyes button. Three years after it seemingly wrapped up, the feel-good sports comedy makes its surprise return with a new assignment that is expected to play out across three seasons.
For now, the 10-part season 4 features the return of Jason Sudeikis' titular Lasso and his visor cap to AFC Richmond – only this time, he's been enlisted to revive the fortunes of the Greyhounds' fledgling women's team, which is marooned in the second tier.
The riff on the tried-and-tested format allows core cast members, including Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent and Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, to ease the transition to an entirely different squad.
New regulars include Tanya Reynolds ( Sex Education ) – playing steely assistant coach Alice – Jude Mack ( Back In Action ), Faye Marsay ( Adolescence ), Rex Hayes ( Bang ), Aisling Sharkey ( Jurassic World: Dominion ) and Abbie Hern ( My Lady Jane ). And this time, Coach Lasso's fast-growing son Henry (Grant Feely) has made the trip across the pond too.
