See the full story · 1 sourcesMANSFIELD — The golf club went missing on Jackson Durchik’s Richland County Junior Golf Championship 17–18-year-old boys division trophy.
That’s quite alright because he has plenty of RCJGC trophies to hide the blemish. Durchik won his third RCJGC title on Tuesday, July 28 at Oak Tree Golf Club after carding a 72 for a two-day total of 142 after carding a 70 in Round 1 at Twin Lakes on July 27 netting him a three-peat championship effort.
His confidence is at an all-time high which spells bad news for anyone about to face him during the upcoming high school golf season.
“It is honestly a huge confidence boost going into the season,” Durchik said. “This tournament sets me in for the upcoming schedule. It almost feels like part of the season at this point because it is so close to tryouts. But this tournament absolutely locks me in for the upcoming high school season.”
Durchik came in tied with Madison’s Josh Maglott making every shot on Day 2 critical. Durchik made very few mistakes and was satisfied with pars down the stretch when he held a four-shot lead. Maglott took runner-up honors with a 70-76-146.
“It was nice to get that pressure so early in the season,” Durchik said. “The OCC rounds are going to be very intense with a lot of pressure, so to come into Day 2 tied knowing every shot matters will only help when the OCC tournament starts. I feel like I handled it well. I got out to a strong start, but it’s because I came in ready to go against the course and not necessarily other people. I wanted to control what I could because I can’t control what everyone else does.”
Bryar Ousley was third with a 75-77-152 while Shelby’s Grady Schroeder was fourth with an 80-73-153 and Lexington’s Caleb Murfield rounded out the Top 5 with a 76-80-156.
Lexington’s Aniyah Monica storms back for girls division title
Lexington senior Aniyah Monica was psyched when she stepped off the course at Twin Lakes after Day 1 with a 79 on her card. She didn’t realize she was actually going to go into Day 2 three strokes back of the leader.
So, instead of fretting over it, Monica decided she was going to take on Oak Tree and use Round 2 to prepare for the upcoming season. Little did she know, her consistency and an 82 would give her a two-day total of 161, which won the first RCJGC title of her career by one stroke over Old Fort’s Sarah Combs.
“I approached it as a preseason to get ready for high school practice and matches,” Monica said. “This is such a great tournament to get our minds right, compete and get better. I feel like my composure got stronger this week and that helped me win the tournament. I cannot wait to get the season started.”
Monica improved dramatically from last year’s tournament and the win in 2026 sets the stage for a huge senior year on the golf course.
“This is my first one and I am so proud because I realize what it took to get here,” Monica said. “Last year, I shot in the high 80s both rounds, but it taught me a lot. I knew I was going to have to play a strong mental game and I feel like I did that. My first title and I am very excited to see how this springboards into the season. I put in a lot of work to get here and words cannot even describe how much it means to me to win the Richland County.”
Vinny Studer wins 13-14-year-old boys division in con’Vince’ing fashion
Madison freshman Vinny Studer felt the sweet taste of RCJGC victory last season as a 13-year-old. He didn’t want that feeling to escape him in 2026, so he went out and absolutely dominated winning his division by 17 strokes with a 74-71-145. He was one-under at Oak Tree.
“Yesterday at Twin, I struggled a little bit with my driver, but my chipping and putting were pretty dialed in,” Studer said. “Today, I figured some things out with my driver on the range but lost my putter a little bit. I am still very proud of a one-under round.”
Studer was a fan favorite at the tournament with a large following. He is about to enter his freshman year at Madison and is in line to compete for the No. 1 spot in the Rams’ lineup. He had former Madison players following him around and cheering him on. He is excited for his first varsity season approaching.
“It does mean a lot to have everyone in my corner,” Studer said. “It is very special to me and it drives me to play my best. It also means a lot to win the Richland County for a second time. I hope this helps me in my first varsity season the Fall. It definitely gave me confidence that I can play with anyone.”
Galion’s Cullen Hart wins 15-16-year-old division in chip-off
It took Galion’s Cullen Hart 19 holes and a chip-off to win his first RCJGC title making it even that much more special.
Hart and Ontario’s Kolbe Ramion were tied with matching two-day totals of 153 and after both players shot par on the Par 5 ninth at Oak Tree, it was decided to go to a chip-off due to public golfers being on the course at the same time. Hart’s clutch chip netting him the title.
“It is great to win this tournament,” Hart said. “I played great yesterday and put myself in a position to win even if I struggled a little bit today. I kept it together and got myself into the playoff and then hit a nice chip to win it.”
Hart will compete for the Galion Tigers this Fall as part of a squad expecting to compete for a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference championship. There will be plenty of pressure filled moments ahead for Hart, but having the pressure of the playoff hole will come in handy.
“This experience is invaluable,” Hart said. “We are going to play in some pressure-packed tournaments this season so to have it now is only going to help when the season starts.”
