Jaguars activate OL Cole Van Lanen off PUP list

The Jacksonville Jaguars got some welcome news for their battered offensive line. Cole Van Lanen was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on Thursday.

Van Lanen suffered a knee injury in Week 18 of the 2025 season, the details of which still have not been fully confirmed; it is rumored , though, that he had to undergo surgery for a torn ACL. He did not appear in any offseason training, and was placed on the PUP list ahead of training camp. The timeline for his return to the football field has been unclear, which was particularly concerning as injuries on the offensive line have piled up.

Now, the Jaguars have announced that Van Lanen has been activated from the PUP list after having reportedly passed his physical.

The timing is also significant, as activating him means Jacksonville will not be forced to decide whether to carry him onto the active roster or place him on reserve.

The Jaguars acquired offensive lineman Daniel Faalele yesterday in a trade with the New York Giants, which added much-needed depth to the offensive line. There have been numerous injuries that have left the unit seriously weakened, as Jacksonville had been without Patrick Mekari, Cole Van Lanen, Chuma Edoga, and Wyatt Milum. Faalele could have potentially been forced to fill in as an immediate starter, but Van Lanen's return means Faalele will now need to compete for a starting role. Regardless of who ends up starting, Van Lanen's activation is a sign that the offensive line is already in better shape than it was just a week ago.
