The addition of firearms was one of the more surprising reveals from the latest Nintendo Direct that gave Fire Emblem fans a deep dive into the Nintendo Switch 2 strategy game. It came during a segment highlighting all the different weapons characters can be equipped with. The likes of swords, spears, gauntlets, axes, bows, and magic should be familiar to longtime Fire Emblem fans, but guns are something new.
When talking about special weapons players can find in the adventure, the narrator confirmed there are "gauntlets that look like firearms" over footage of a character named Anatolia using one. The weapon, which appears to be called a "Salamander," looks like a pistol and fires an energy blast that kills Anatolia's Thundercloud Knight opponent in one shot.
In Fire Emblem games, gauntlet-type weapons usually increase the player's evasiveness while still dealing decent damage. Fortune's Weave dares to ask what if, instead of fists, your character uses guns instead? Look out Advance Wars , Fire Emblem's encroaching on what you do best.
At this point, it's unknown whether there are more firearm weapons or if the Salamander is the only one. Regardless, the fact that I can use guns in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is pretty hilarious, and I know I'll certainly mess around and equip my characters with guns when I can.
Nintendo's latest Direct showcase also confirmed another surprise addition: elephants. Heroes can now ride on dragons, winged horses, birds, and elephants, thanks to the addition of a new advanced character class, the Elephant Rider. Thanks for walking so that Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave could fly, Super Mario Bros. Wonder .
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on Sept. 17. I recommend checking out the Nintendo Direct if you're even remotely interested in the game, as it reveals much more than just guns.
