Tarik Skubal has officially found a new team before the trade deadline, as the starting pitcher is headed to the Los Angeles Dodgers . This was probably another surprise move from the Dodgers, picking up an elite-level talent and adding them to their already-stacked roster. As for the Detroit Tigers , it seems as if they liked the package they received in return, and the hope is that they can be contributors for years to come.
There were other teams interested in Skubal, with the New York Yankees being at the top of the list. There were questions about what the Tigers were looking for in a trade with them, and some even thought they were asking for their top prospect , according to the New York Post.
“The Yankees had stayed engaged even as they heard a Tigers’ initial price that would involve two major leaguers, including a current starting pitcher, and two minor leaguers,” the New York Post wrote. “It was not believed that Detroit requested the Yankees’ top prospect, George Lombard Jr., the son of Tigers bench coach George Lombard Sr.

“If the Yankees were able to pull off a trade for Skubal, they would be improving what already is their strength — their starting pitching. The hope would be that maybe they could then more comfortably use another starter as a way to get much needed hitting.”
It would’ve been a good move for the Yankees, but the Dodgers came in and swooped up Skubal .
The Yankees will now have to roll with what they have for the remainder of the season, unless they pull off a trade before Aug. 3. There are still some other options they could trade for, but unfortunately, none of them will probably be at the level of Skubal.
