The Jacksonville Jaguars had their first home preseason game of the year, hosting the Carolina Panthers . Unfortunately, it was a game that ended in a 34-17 loss, with the Panthers controlling much of the contest.
However, while the game ended in defeat for the Jaguars , there were still several players who were able to stand out.
WR Trebor Pena
For the second preseason game in a row, undrafted rookie receiver Trebor Pena out of Penn State led the Jaguars in receptions and receiving yards. He also had Jacksonville’s only touchdown of the night on an impressive 29-yard score. Jacksonville has arguably the most stacked receiver room in the NFL between Brian Thomas Jr, Travis Hunter, Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, and rookies Josh Cameron and CJ Williams. Pena may not make the Jaguars roster, but he should land on the practice squad at the very least.
DB Jabbar Muhammad
For the second week in a row, defensive back Jabbar Muhammad had a solid performance with six total tackles. Muhammad has a real chance of making the roster with the depth the Jaguars have at cornerback. In fact, on their most recent depth chart, he is listed as a second-string player. As long as he keeps up this consistent and solid performance, he should be someone who makes Jacksonville’s final 53-man roster.
RB Ameer Abdullah
Abdullah is going into his twelfth season in the NFL and is currently fighting just to make any roster. His performance against Carolina should get the attention of teams around the league. He finished the game as Jacksonville’s leading rusher with 45 yards and 7.5 yards per attempt and was also involved in the passing game with 37 receiving yards. Although he dropped a touchdown catch someone with his experience should have had, he still had a good day overall.
WR Michael Wortham
Wortham was yet another undrafted player who made an impact on this game. He caught all three of his targets for 41 yards. Like Pena, he is fighting to impress any team he can and will probably have a difficult time making Jacksonville’s roster given all the wide receivers they have. However, his performance in his game and throughout training camp could help him land on the practice squad.
K Cam Little
Technically, the Jaguars had their starting kicker and punter in the game, so they were not without all their starters. It is no secret the kind of leg Little has, and he put his talent on display in this game. He made all three of his field goal attempts, the longest being 43 yards. His points were the only points of the game for the Jaguars until a late touchdown. While Little is capable of making field goals far greater than 43 yards, his consistent performance in making all of his attempts in this game still deserves some attention.
