See the full story · 1 sourcesThrowing for 5,000 passing yards in a single NFL season is one of the rarest accomplishments for a quarterback. It requires elite talent, durability, consistency, and often an offense built around the passing game.
While several quarterbacks have reached the 5,000-yard mark once, only three players in NFL history have done it multiple times. A recent post from Pro Football Focus (PFF) on X highlighted just how incredible Drew Brees’ career truly was.

Brees stands in a league of his own

Drew Brees: 5
Patrick Mahomes: 2
Tom Brady: 2
That’s it. No Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Brett Favre, or Aaron Rodgers. Only Brees, Mahomes, and Brady have reached the milestone more than once.
What separates Brees from everyone else is the sheer consistency he displayed during his Hall of Fame career. Throwing for 5,000 yards once is an incredible achievement, but accomplishing it five different times is a testament to both his longevity and remarkable production.

Untouchable passing legacy?

Mandatory Credit: Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports Mahomes and Brady each reached the milestone twice, placing them in elite company, but they’re still well behind Brees’ record.
With Mahomes still in the prime of his career, he may have the best chance of eventually matching or surpassing Brees. Even so, reaching five 5,000-yard seasons remains an incredibly difficult task in today’s NFL, where offensive philosophies continue to evolve, and teams rely more heavily on balanced attacks.
Brees may not always be the first quarterback mentioned in debates about the greatest to ever play the position, but statistics like this serve as a reminder of just how dominant he was. His five 5,000-yard passing seasons remain one of the most remarkable achievements in NFL history and a benchmark that few quarterbacks have even come close to matching.
