New York Giants star wide receiver Malik Nabers is recovering from a torn ACL and meniscus damage suffered in Week 4 of last season. He avoided the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to start training camp and has been slowly working his way back over the last couple of weeks, including doing individual drills.
On Friday, he reportedly turned in his best performance of camp, showing sharper cuts, confidently jumping and landing on the injured leg, and running crisper routes. Head coach John Harbaugh went as far as to say this is the best he's seen Nabers, with the expectation being for him to ease his way back into a regular practice routine and return to live team drills over the coming weeks.
"[Allison Boudreau, Coordinator of Rehabilitation & Return to Play] is working with him," Harbaugh said. "She's been working on situations where you're off-balance, landing off-balance, and unpredictable type situations that you're going to get rather than just doing normal rehab and then getting out there and all of a sudden being surprised by the awkwardness of football. Try to create that as much as you can in a controlled setting."

The Giants wrapped up camp at The Greenbrier in West Virginia on Friday, and the team now heads back to New Jersey to begin preseason practices leading up to the NFL roster cutdown deadline at the end of the month. The Giants' first preseason game is Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium, followed by two road matchups against the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets to close out the month.
Harbaugh and the Giants will open the regular season Sunday, Sept. 13, against the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife, with Nabers' Week 1 status still to be determined. If he continues to progress the way he's been, there's a very good chance he'll be ready for the season opener.
