San Jose police are investigating the stabbing death of a woman as the city’s 17th homicide of this year, the department reported Saturday.
Patrol officers responded around 1:53 p.m. Friday to a report of a “suspicious circumstance” in the 700 block of Linda Vista Street, according to the department.
Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious and unresponsive adult female inside a residence suffering from unknown injuries. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives responded to assist with the investigation alongside the Santa Clara County Crime Lab and the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators located evidence at the scene determining the victim suffered at least one stab wound, leading authorities to rule the death a homicide.
Preliminary findings indicate the victim and suspect knew each other. Officers quickly identified an adult female as the suspect, though police stated her identity will be released at a later time.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain under investigation.
