In a week where nothing Colorado Avalanche related happened in the hockey world whilst in the middle of the dog days of summer, an interesting note of information appeared. The organization has chosen to send prospect TJ Hughes to the NHLPA Rookie Showcase which is currently being held in Chicago from July 28-30.

This under the radar event is for selected prospects who are expected to make their NHL debut in the coming season. They will do press, take photos in their NHL team’s gear and sign a bunch of merchandise. The trading card companies make use of these materials and are always present at the event.
Most of the Rookie Showcase roster comprises young blue chip prospects such as Toronto’s Gavin McKenna and Philadelphia’s Porter Martone but also older hopefuls expecting to make the jump such as Colorado’s TJ Hughes. The Avalanche don’t always send a prospect each year, in fact, the only other player they made sure was in attendance this decade was Nikolai Kovalenko in 2024. Coincidentally both Gavin Brindley and Fedor Svechkov were also invitees that year as well.
