Man Utd predicted starting XI vs Ipswich: Carrick to drop struggling quartet
Manchester United are preparing to host Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon, but their starting lineup could drastically differ from the one they fielded in Hull last weekend.
The Red Devils began their campaign with a shocking 0-2 defeat against the Tigers. Therefore, they could ill-afford a misstep against another freshly promoted Premier League club, especially in their first home fixture of the season.
But to achieve a better result, Michael Carrick will have to make some tweaks to his lineup, obliterating some of the players who had poor performances in Hull.

Last weekend, Senne Lammens was one of the few Man Utd players who wasn’t bashed for his display. Despite conceding two goals, he still had to pull off solid saves to spare his team further embarrassment. The Belgian goalkeeper’s place in the lineup has never been in doubt since his arrival a year ago.
On the contrary, the backline will certainly require a reboot. Despite his comical blunder on Hull’s first goal, Harry Maguire should keep his place in the team, unlike his young teammate Ayden Heaven, who could relinquish his spot for the more experienced Lisandro Martinez.
The Argentine defender was one of the last players to return to Carrington this summer, as his national team went all the way in the World Cup. Therefore, the 28-year-old might not be at his best physically, but he should be fit enough to start.
Noussair Mazraoui was another player who failed to impress against the Tigers, so he should make way for Diogo Dalot at right-back. On the other hand, Luke Shaw remains Carrick’s undisputed choice at left-back, as United have yet to sign a new player for this role.

In the middle of the park, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos both had debuts to forget. But while waiting for Carlos Baleba’s return from injury, the Brazilian remains Man Utd’s only available holding midfielder, which should be enough to earn him another chance.
As for Tielemans, he could be dropped in favour of Kobbie Mainoo, who proved to be an upgrade on the Belgian following his second-half introduction last week. Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes will operate as an attacking midfielder as usual.
After struggling to deliver the goods on the left wing, Patrick Dorgu was hauled off at half-time in Hull, so he’s unlikely to retain his starting berth. Carrick should instead entrust Marcus Rashford with a starting role, as Matheus Cunha is expected to lead the line once more, since Benjamin Sesko remains short on fitness.
Bryan Mbeumo will keep his place on the right flank, as Amad Diallo remains out with an injury , with Carrick confirming the news on Friday.
