See the full story · 1 sourcesFlorida State head coach Mike Norvell had his preseason press conference on Monday. He spoke on several topics as the program gears up for fall camp, which begins on Wednesday, but he also gave some extremely important injury updates.
Four-star linebacker Izayia Williams is one of the top prospects in FSU's 2026 recruiting class. However, he didn’t play his senior year due to a torn ACL. His progression this offseason has been excellent, and Norvell says that he's cleared to return to the field.
"Yeah, so obviously Izayia came in. He's fully cleared. I mean, he definitely looks the part. I'm excited to see him out in practice. He'll be ready to go," Norvell said.
That's a major development. Williams is a sideline-to-sideline linebacker who is extremely athletic. He possesses great tackling skills in space, and he also plays with physicality, with a reputation for being a violent hitter. Williams is a former safety, which gives him skills against the pass. Plus, he has some potential to come off the edge.
Speaking of edges, Cam Brooks is also entering his freshman campaign. Unfortunately, he suffered a torn Achilles back in February, which put his availability for the 2026 season in serious jeopardy. According to Norvell, Brooks will be back at some point this season.
"Cam Brooks, we will expect back this year. He will obviously be limited the first part of the season just in his return, but he was a guy that I was excited about what I saw early. I mean, you feel his urgency just in how he's gone about his business. We obviously had a little winter program setback, but definitely excited about the way that he's going about learning. I think he'll have a chance to hopefully be able to impact us at some point here this season."
Brooks is a player that has the ability to not only play off the edge but on the interior as well. His pass-rush upside is clear, and he plays with an extremely high motor. He also has great arm length, which is vital for shedding blocks and keeping offensive lineman from getting their hands on him.
The Seminoles need all hands on deck as quickly as possible with such an important season approaching. With Williams cleared and Brooks set to make a return at some point, the Seminoles' chances of turning things around just got a little higher.
