Cincinnati Reds blow another one in 9th to lose game, series to Cards
Not even a dramatic go-ahead grand slam by Matt McLain and another six-inning start from veteran Brady Singer could salve the wounds of a battered season for a day, much less ease the minds on a long flight west for a nine-game road trip.
Not for these Cincinnati Reds during this wayward season.

A season that never looked more wayward than it did during the ninth inning of the finale of a long series against the St. Louis Cardinals .
Even though the Reds nearly pulled off a wild, improbable rally.
A two-out fly ball that would have ended the game instead caromed off the glove of usually sure-handed center fielder Dane Myers, allowing the tying and go-ahead runs to score – followed quickly by the inning unraveling for reliever Brock Burke.
By the time the inning was done, and despite a four-run ninth, the Reds were cooked, and headed to Phoenix smarting from their third series loss in their last four series.
Final: Cardinals 10, Reds 9.
After a six-run top of the ninth after Myers' gaff gave the Cardinals a 10-5 lead, the Reds scored four in the bottom of the inning and got the winning run to second base.
With the bases loaded and two outs, McLain flied out to end it.
The Reds lost three of five to the Cards to finish 3-5 during the homestand.
They're 5-9 in their last four series and now face the toughest remaining schedule in the majors the final 34 games of the season.
They trailed 4-0 in this one until coming back dramatically in the sixth with a five-run inning capped by long-struggling McLain's second career grand slam, a two-out line shot to left field.
