Injured names like Marcelo Mayer, Story, and Anthony were replaced by Tsung-Che Cheng , Anthony Seigler , and Jones. These players were DFA’d or overlooked elsewhere and suddenly became functional pieces in Boston.

CJ Abrams
Trading for CJ Abrams is an incredibly unlikely move, considering the Red Sox just made a deal with Washington for Curtis Mead. However, Abrams to Boston made sense because they needed a long-term shortstop and a high-impact everyday infielder.
Trading Early for Mead doesn’t fill the shortstop hole, but it does fill the impact infielder hole. Mead is under control through 2031 and able to play 3B/2B/1B.
Shea Langeliers
Shea Langeliers is the most attainable high‑impact option. Per Yahoo Sports , the Red Sox were “salivating” over Langeliers. A realistic deal starts with Duran , whose value is high enough to anchor a deal for a controllable catcher. Add in a veteran closer like Aroldis Chapman and a lower‑level pitching prospect, and the Athletics get both present value and future upside.
For Boston, Langeliers immediately stabilizes the catching position with power, defense, and leadership, and he’s under control through 2028.
Luis Arraez
Luis Arraez is the most Fenway‑friendly bat available. The Giants would ask for Duran as the centerpiece, giving them a controllable outfielder with speed and power. Boston could add Franklin Arias to sweeten the long‑term value and Story to offset salary and give San Francisco a prospect infielder.
