Terrance Chatman vs. Anthony Wint UFC Fight Night 285 preview
Chatman (5-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his debut following a first-round finish of Juan Torres under the Fury FC banner in July. Four of his five wins have come by stoppage no later than the second round.
Wint (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his debut on a lightning-fast turnaround after an impressive showing at Dana White's Contender Series on Aug. 11. That fight only lasted 34 seconds, and now the former New York Jet brings his undefeated record to the UFC.
Terrance Chatman vs. Anthony Wint UFC Fight Night 285 expert pick, prediction
Despite having a slew of proven, lighter-weight action fighters relegated to the prelims, the UFC matchmakers, once again, would rather stick to their tradition of force-feeding lower-level big guys down our throats on Fight Nights, any chance they get.
In this case, one long-honored tradition meets another in their attempt to immediately promote former pro footballer Anthony Wint in what looks like an obvious squash match on paper.
Despite Brendan Schaub still being the best fighter to come from this category, promotions to regular people alike can't stop fawning over the 'athletic potential' of a pro football player crossing over into the heavyweight ranks. Now, that triggering statement often causes people to invoke the names of Brock Lesnar or Josh Hokit, but let me remind you that those two had extensive wrestling backgrounds.
To Wint's credit, he apparently does have some wrestling in his background when you go back to his high school athletics, and he does train with former UFC welterweight champ Kamaru Usman. All good signs for Wint.
Wint's opponent, Terrance Chatman, appears to be a deceptively durable heavyweight with some solid leg kicks. I'm hoping he's able to test Wint with those tools, but it's ultimately hard to officially side with Chatman in what feels like a setup spot.
As I said in my Grading The Winners column write-up on Wint last week, the one thing I can confidently forecast is that the UFC will set him up with a bonus-winning main card opportunity in his first two swings at bat.
The pick is Wint by knockout in Round 1.
