ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler tweeted that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans and the team are preparing as if he’s going to suit up in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Evans missed practice this week with a groin injury . Kyle Shanahan said he expected Evans to be back for next week’s practice. Fowler confirmed that Evans’ latest injury is minor, like the other ones he’s sustained this month. Not that there was any doubt, but Evans’ groin injury does not sound serious.
If the regular season is anything like training camp and the preseason, Evans could be a mainstay on the injury report. He may be listed as questionable and never miss a game, but this could be the norm.
Evans figures to be a massive part of the 49ers’ offense. Kyle Shanahan has a run-first mentality, but Evans is the type of player who could turn his head coach into the pass-happy type. Adding Evans to the offense benefits everybody involved. The running game, the receivers, the running backs, and most importantly, Brock Purdy.
