Lane closures on the Golden Gate Bridge will reduce southbound traffic to two lanes through Thursday as crews carry out pothole and asphalt repairs.
Two southbound lanes are scheduled to close from about 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Two lanes will remain open in each direction during the maintenance project.
Before the closures begin each day, bridge crews will shift traffic into a four-lane southbound and two-lane northbound configuration, according to a spokesperson. That allows crews to close two southbound lanes for maintenance while keeping two travel lanes open in both directions.
Once the work is finished, staff will use the bridge’s movable median barrier to return traffic to its normal three-lane southbound and three-lane northbound configuration. Work is expected to wrap up by 2 p.m. each day. Additional midday closures are scheduled for Sept. 7-10, Oct. 5-8 and Nov. 2-5.
Bridge staff will monitor traffic and weather before putting the closures in place and may reschedule the work if conditions require it. Traffic control and signage will be posted around the work zones.
Drivers are being asked to slow down and use caution while maintenance crews are on the bridge.
