A preliminary 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck near San Leandro, according to the United States Geological Survey .
The quake hit at 8:30 a.m. and was centered 2.4 miles north of San Leandro, the USGS said.
The initial quake was followed by preliminary 3.0- and 2.8-magnitude aftershocks at about 9:07 a.m., according to the USGS.
Following the earthquake, BART said trains were running at reduced speeds while crews conducted safety inspections of the tracks.
Riders should expect residual delays of up to 20 minutes systemwide while inspections are completed.
