See the full story · 2 sourcesJackson Koivun 's time on the PGA Tour is still well in its infancy, but just three events in, the longtime Auburn men's golf standout has his first win, closing out a strong finish Sunday, July 26, at the 3M Open in Minnesota.
The win was technically Koivun's seventh of the year, as he recorded six victories — including a national championship — during the spring in his final college season.
A 25-under-par for the weekend gave Koivun a three-stroke lead on the field at the event's close, putting him just ahead of the world's top-ranked golfer, Scottie Scheffler (22-under). Hideki Matsuyama and Brian Harman, each of whom have won at least one major in their careers, followed Scheffler on the leaderboard.
Koivun ascended to the top of the leaderboard Saturday, shooting a 10-under-par 61 and setting an event record with just 28 strokes on the back nine. Koivun's score for the entire weekend also broke the event's 72-hole scoring record, which Lee Hodges set at 24-under in 2023.
Last month, Koivun announced he'd be forgoing his final season of eligibility at Auburn and taking up his PGA Tour card, which he earned as a sophomore. He failed to make the cut in his professional debut at the John Deere Classic, but Koivun finished tied for 10th at the ISCO Championship.
In Koivun's time as a Tiger, he won two national championships. He was also a three-time SEC Player of the Year, and he's the only college golfer to ever win the Ben Hogan Award, Haskins Award and Jack Nicklaus Award multiple times.
