Pokémon cards continue to be some of the priciest in the TCG collector market, and 2026 is no different so far. While we've still got a couple of Pokémon TCG sets in the release schedule for 2026 , locked and loaded, it's worth taking stock now and having a look at what has truly blown up so far this year.
For the most part, Mega Evolution's Ascended Heroes has dominated the most sought-after cards of 2026, and features in 7/10 of the top most valuable cards of the year. Hardly surprising considering how expensive it is to buy any boosters for that set right now as well.
But there are still a couple of surprises along the way that are worth discussing, so let's jump right in. Before we do, just a quick note that this data is primarily sourced from our friends at TCGplayer.
We'll continue to update this article with new data once it becomes available after the Delta Reign and 30th Anniversary Celebration sets are out as well.
Mega Greninja ex - 116/086
Considering Ascended Heroes absolutely dominiates the top chase cards of the year so far, it's nice to start things off with something from different Mega Evolution set, Chaos Rising .
It's no where near as pricey as it was near release, but Mega Greninja ex is now holding strong and hovering at around $205.95 market value at TCGplayer, and comes in as the tenth most valuable card of 2026 so far. It's a great pull from an otherwise underwhelming set, but everyone loves Greninja so that's hardly surprising.
Mega Darkrai ex - 116/084
Pitch Black is the most recent release from the Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution line up, and I rather enjoy it! I've always loved the darker, moodier sides to Pokémon, so this expansion is right up my street.
Similar to Mega Greninja in Chaos Rising, value on the Mega Darkrai cards from Pitch Black have taken a rather aggressive nosedive, and are no where near where they started close to release day. Yet, still, over $200 for this is nothing to sniff at, and well worth looking out for.
That's especially true, considering how easy it is to pick up Pitch Black booster bundles and Elite Trainer Boxes for below market price right now .
You can currently pick up the ETB for $69.95 , and the Booster Bundle for $39.99 from Amazon . Both are "sold and shipped" directly from Amazon itself as well, and not via any third-party sellers.
I'd pick up two or three of each while you still can! Hunt down this Mega Darkrai!
Mega Dragonite ex - 295/217
Better get used to talking about Ascended Heroes, as we are in it for the long haul now. By every measure, Ascended Heroes is by far the biggest Pokémon set of 2026. That makes sense considering how cool it is, and how many cards it packs into it as well (295 in total).
First on the AH dominance train is the Mega Hyper Rare, Mega Dragonite ex. It's shiny and gold, and worth almost $250 resale right now. Hot stuff!
Mega Dragonite's spotlight has somewhat been stolen by some other notably popular hards in this set. But, considering he's the set's headliner, pulling this rare beauty is still cause for celebration, and one I'd be on the look out for in the wild.
Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex - 281/217
Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex is currently boasting a $350+ market value on the resale market. This is another hot Ascended Heroes pull, and a mighty fine looking one at that as well.
It's still not as big as Destined Rival's version from last year (which is sitting around $500 market value at the time of publication), but it's still pretty pricey nonetheless.
Pikachu ex - 277/217
Illustrated by British graphic designer James Turner, this is one of most wonderfully bright and cheerful Pokémon Cards I've ever seen, so I'm surprised it's demanding around $370 at TCGplayer right now.
Yet, surprisingly, it's not even remarkably close to the most valuable Pikachu in the Ascended Heroes set. I know, shocking, right?
Mega Charizard Y ex - 294/217
But, before we get into that fanfare, and some Celebratory Fanfare just below as well, we need to discuss Mega Charizard Y ex, another standout Mega Hyper Rare from Ascended Heroes that's equally as impossible to find in packs. Probably won't stop anyone trying to chase it down, but still it's a toughy.
Sitting at $410.43 market price, Mega Charizard Y has been notably absent from other Mega Evolution Series releases, besides a single double rare worth around $7. That, combined with its Mega Hyper Rare status, and being one of the most popular Pokémon ever all creates a perfect storm of this being one exciting card to pull.
Celebratory Fanfare - 028
Celebratory Fanfare is where we start to see a real dramatic increase in the value of these valuable cards. Jumping from around Mega Charizard Y's $400 to Celebratory Fanfare (Ace Trainer)'s almost $700 is quite the leap.
So what's the deal? Well, since 2021, The Pokémon Company has awarded the top Pokémon players of each season with the title of "Ace Trainer" and an exclusive promo card. That custom finally made its way to the international scene in 2025. Those who earned at least 200 Championship Points during the 2025 season were awarded the Ace Trainer status, and sent this copy of Celebratory Fanfare in January 2026.
As it first became available in 2026, I'm counting it as part of this year's list. No arguments, I've made my decision!
Mega Dragonite ex - 290/217
Not only is this another stunning card from the Ascended Heroes lineup, but SIR Mega Dragonite ex - 290/217 is another that depicts the Mega-Evolved Pokémon alongside their previous evolutions.
It's worth almost $700 right now, and I'm not entirely suprised. I mean, look at it! If it weren't for the next two cards being absolute runaways this year, this would be far and away the most valuable Pokémon card of 2026 right now.
Mega Gengar ex - 284/217
