"There was a lot of talented guys in front of me on the leaderboard. I was fortunate to get off to a good start and put myself in the mix."</p><p>Scheffler's Tour Championship triumph means he bookends his season with victories, having started his campaign by claiming The American Express before having a seven-month wait to next find the winner's circle.</p> <widget id="4"></widget><p>He ended inside the top four 10 times during that frustrating winless period, with a runner-up finish to Rory McIlroy at The Masters among five seconds, although still entered the FedExCup Playoffs as No 1 for a fifth consecutive season.</p><p>Scheffler responded with a dominant eight-shot win at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the opening FedExCup Playoff event, while his victory at East Lake sees him become just the 31st player to reach 22 career wins on the PGA Tour.</p> <widget id="8"></widget><p>"I felt like my thought process going into (the FedExCup Playoffs) was that maybe I've underperformed in some of the post-seasons in the past," Scheffler said. "I think of 2022 and 2023, where I had a lead at this tournament and wasn't able to win the FedExCup or a Playoff event.</p><p>"I came in this year maybe not winning the tournaments that I could have won throughout the regular season, so to come in and win two out of three Playoff events is definitely a nice way to finish off the season."</p> <widget id="6"></widget><p>It marks the fifth year in a row that Scheffler has won multiple PGA Tour titles, equalling Woods' career-best streak, while he becomes the first player since Dustin Johnson from 2016-18 to claim three or more victories in three consecutive seasons.</p><p>"Three wins, five runner-ups and finishing the season No 1 - those are some numbers to be proud of," Woods posted on X. "Incredible consistency all season long. Congrats on a historic season, Scottie."</p> <widget id="1"></widget><h3><strong>How Scheffler's 'got an edge' over PGA Tour rivals</strong></h3><p>Scheffler's strokes-gained stats were nearly a shot a round better than his closest challenger over the PGA Tour season, plus he topped tee-to-green, greens in regulation and scoring average metrics during another super year.</p><p>"I think he [Scheffler] knows that he's got an edge on most guys out here." Hovland said. "He doesn't have to do anything crazy. He can play smart and just pick his spots, stay in it constantly.</p> <widget id="3"></widget><p>"Today [Tour Championship], it wasn't like anybody else really played all that great in contention - a lot of guys were just gagging and throwing up. That's where he stays in it and shoots a nice score and that gets the job done."</p><p>Only Greg Norman and Woods have had more time as the world No 1 than Scheffler, who holds such a commanding lead over McIlroy and the chasing pack that - regardless of results over the rest of the year - he will start 2027 still in top spot.</p> <widget id="5"></widget><p>Scheffler has been world No 1 since May 2023 but would need to stay there until October 2028 to break Woods' record consecutive stint of 281 weeks at the top, with the four-time major champion keen to keep building on his success.</p><p>"I feel like I hold myself to a high standard, which I think sometimes can be good and bad," Scheffler admitted. "I feel like at times I probably could be a bit of a pain to be around when things aren't going the way they should.</p> <widget id="9"></widget><p>"I don't feel like I take days off. I'm highly competitive and I'm very proud of being able to have the consistent results I've had over the years. I feel like it's something that's very difficult to do.</p><p>"I don't take days off during tournaments. I try to give it my all each and every day. I feel like it's a gift to play out here on the PGA Tour and don't want to take it for granted.</p><p>"I don't want to look back at the end of my career and feel like I could have done more in order to play well.
