TreVeyon Henderson is still at least a year, if not more, away from having to think about a potential contract extension with the New England Patriots .
Everyone is going to be paying close attention in the days ahead, though, to see how the RB salary market changes with Jahmyr Gibbs and Bijan Robinson.
Gibbs, of the Detroit Lions, and Robinson, of the Atlanta Falcons, both seem to be conducting training camp hold-ins right now.
They both showed up to camp, but they didn't participate in their franchises' respective practices on Wednesday.
They're both seeking a record-setting contract extension, and it's got the potential to be an amusing game of chicken from afar. Both want to enter the season as the highest-paid RB in the history of the NFL. Only one can do so, though.

One of Gibbs or Robinson will have to sign first. Then the other will get to leapfrog, even if just by a slim margin.
And then, in the years ahead, every younger running back will compare the offers they're getting from a team to the deals that Gibbs and Robinson signed.
Henderson had a strong rookie season for the Patriots, and he will continue to split action this season with Rhamondre Stevenson. That's not a terrible thing -- both Gibbs and Robinson had some timeshare action earlier in their careers, too.
And this isn't to say that Henderson is going to end up as good as those superstars. It's worth paying attention, though, because it's not impossible.
There's a legitimate chance that in a couple years, Henderson is the guy contemplating a training camp hold-in to get a huge contract. Running backs don't get paid as much these days as they'd like, because it's a position that has less value in the modern NFL.
Henderson's goal will be to transcend the ranks of the middling RBs and prove that he can be an individual star at that position.
Even then, the Pats will likely be considering a salary cap sheet that includes a massive deal for Drake Maye. Henderson will be in a position where he's hoping to add onto the top of that.
What could that look like? The first hints will come this summer when Gibbs and Robinson get new deals.
