See the full story · 1 sourcesIt didn't take long for recently-waived San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Colton Dowell to find a new home in the NFL. He was claimed off waivers according to the NFL transaction wire.
Dowell, 27, was a seventh-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in the 2023 draft who made his way to San Francisco when he signed a reserve/future contract in January. The 6-3, 212-pound receiver was let go in an August 6 roster move to make room for offensive lineman Kion Smith.
With injuries in the receiving corps there was an opportunity for Dowell to make a splash, but other more experienced players further down the depth chart took advantage of those chances and left Dowell as the odd man out. Now he gets a fresh start in a Pittsburgh club that's also ironing out some details in the back of its receiving corps.
Dowell's only NFL action came in his rookie season when he played in 10 games for Tennessee. He caught one pass for three yards and contributed a whopping 159 special teams snaps.
