The Boston Red Sox didn't get to enjoy Curtis Mead for long.
The newly acquired infielder from the Washington Nationals was hit by a pitch in his second plate appearance after being traded. It resulted in a fracture, and he's onto the Injured List.
To take his spot on the roster, the Red Sox have called up Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester:
The #RedSox today placed INF Curtis Mead on the 10-Day Injured List (retroactive to July 28) with a left wrist fracture. To fill his spot, Boston recalled INF/OF Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester.

Sogard is a somewhat familiar player to Boston fans over the past couple seasons.
The 28-year old has seen action in 2024, 2025 and 2026 at the MLB level.
Overall, he has played 73 major league games with a .264 average and .667 OPS.
This season, Sogard has gotten 12 games, with two doubles and a triple.
Sogard still has not hit a home run at the major league level.
He has spent the majority of this season with Triple-A Worcester, playing 46 games there. He has 11 doubles, one triple and five home runs there, with a .270 average and .848 OPS.
His career minor league OPS is .775, and Sogard has spent time playing at almost every spot on the field.
At least in the interim, he's a logical stopgap. He can play all over and provide some contact hitting in a pinch.
It's certainly not ideal for the Red Sox, but it's the best they can do right now.
