The Las Vegas Aces suffered a blowout 111-71 loss at the New York Liberty on Sunday, likely the result of reigning league MVP A’ja Wilson and standout guards Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young sitting out due to injury. Wilson, Gray, and Young’s unavailability was announced just moments before the game. And when Aces coach Becky Hammon was asked about it, she slammed the WNBA for its scheduling.
“Everybody has a brutal schedule at some point,” Hammon was quoted as saying in a report by @UnderdogWNBA on X/Twitter, according to Liberty insider Myles Ehrlich. “I don’t even think they do this in the NBA though, where it’s (two games) less than 24 hours (apart). You can check, and I’m pretty sure that’s not even legal on the NBA side.”
Las Vegas (22-11) was coming off a grueling 98-87 defeat at the league-leading Minnesota Lynx (27-7) on Saturday, less than 24 hours before. So, right after that game, the Aces had to fly to New York to face the Liberty. Their next game is scheduled on Tuesday against the Washington Mystics in Las Vegas.

In a report by Myles Erlich on X/Twitter, Becky Hammon asserted that her staff’s focus is on keeping their players safe and healthy. The Aces are the defending 2025 WNBA champions, meaning there is pressure on their players to go back-to-back this season. Still, Hammon shares that she won’t put her players in situations that could jeopardize their welfare.
“With the time change, it ends up being that. But we’re going to always err on the side of health and safety for our players,” Hammon said. “Not going to put them in any kind of jeopardy to get hurt when we’ve been expending a lot of energy and traveling a lot of miles back and forth, crisscrossing the country. So, it is what it is. I know these are big matchups, and these are what people want to see. But you should ensure that it’s fair.”
The Aces are third in the WNBA and in the Western Conference.
