The ever-controversial President of the United States, Donald Trump, was in the middle of yet another contentious situation due to his involvement in getting what would’ve been a one-game suspension for USMNT star Folarin Balogun for being assessed a red card postponed, allowing Balogun to suit up and face Belgium in the round of 16 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Now, one of the nation’s top Democrats, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, is launching an inquiry into any potential wrongdoing and demanding that FIFA turn over all records related to its communications with Trump, members of his administration, and the Trump Organization.
As it turns out, FIFA President Gianni Infantino does indeed have plans in the works tied to people close to the Trump administration, per The Times’ Martyn Ziegler.
“EXCLUSIVE: Fifa’s president Gianni Infantino is planning to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors under a scheme that could potentially earn him tens of millions of pounds. Investor discussions held with figures close to the Trump administration, say sources,” Ziegler reported, before following up with more info.
“FIFA has now confirmed to The Times this Infantino plan is under discussion with Josh Kushner as proposed lead investor.”

“How did this corrupt Trump family infiltrate global football?”
Josh Kushner is the younger brother of Jared Kushner, the United States Special Envoy for Peace Missions and husband of Trump’s daughter, Ivanka. People on social media were incredibly upset at Infantino working behind the scenes with the Kushners and people close to Trump.
“The Kushners are hell bent on destroying the world in whatever way possible. I doubt it’s about money, it’s about making the world as sh*t as possible,” one person posted on X.
“Unbelievable. Brother of Jared, Trump’s son-in-law & primary bag carrier. Infantino is completely craven to Trump,” someone else added.
“How did this corrupt Trump family infiltrate global football? This FIFA president gotta go ASAP,” another person wrote.
The White House has already responded to Raskin’s investigation.
“Lightweight Jamie Raskin (is) a stupid person’s idea of a smart person,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle told The Athletic via statement. It’ll be interesting to see if he addresses Ziegler’s recent reporting as well.
