Anderson's former team the Chicago White Sox's announced Anderson's retirement on social media on Monday, Aug. 10. Anderson spent eight seasons with the White Sox from 2016-23, making his MLB debut on July 10, 2016 for the White Sox. He last appeared with the Los Angeles Angels in 2025 and also playing with the Miami Marlins in 2024.
Anderson was drafted in the first round of the 2013 MLB draft out of East Central Community College in Mississippi. He was the No. 17 pick that year. He quickly rose up the minor ranks before appearing with the White Sox. Over his 10-year career, Anderson hit .276 with 350 RBIs, 98 home runs and 122 stolen bases.
His best season came in 2019 when he won the American League batting title, leading all of MLB with a .335 average. He was a two-time all-star (2021-22) and appeared with Team USA in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. He earned the Silver Slugger award in 2020.
Over the back half of his career, injuries began to derail his career with MLB.com reporting he had a left hand injury in 2022 and left knee sprain in 2023.
Anderson did not play high school baseball until his junior season at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. That came after a basketball injury kept him away from sports during his sophomore season. He hit .420 during his senior season after helping lead the basketball team to the state championship.
