The second preseason game for the Raiders is tonight. The preseason is all about players who are trying to prove themselves, whether that's to try and work their way up the depth chart or make the roster. Here are a few player to especially keep an eye on tonight
QB Fernando Mendoza
Yes, him again. He will be the main event every week for the Raiders in this preseason. That's just how it is. He is the number one overall pick. and unlike many top picks, he wasn't emancipated the moment the pick was made. He is being given time to earn the starting job while proven veteran Kirk Cousins starter. Which means will see a lot more of Mendoza than we perhaps otherwise would.
WR Noah Brown
The newest member of the team. Having just joined the Raiders , his familiarity with the playbook won't quite be there yet, but since the team won't open up the playbook much anyway, he could be fine even on short notice. He has some ground to make up, but without much competition or depth at the position, he has a real opportunity. Tonight is his first, best opportunity to seize it.
G Caleb Rogers
With Jackson Powers-Johnson not playing , Rogers will assuredly start. And with Rogers embroiled in a competition at the position , he will see a lot of reps. He played well enough during the last half of last season and this is his shot to show the new coaches he deserves the job.
EDGE Patrick Johnson
Johnson had a monster game in the preseason opener. But we've seen big preseason performances that lead nowhere. He is not established or a drafted rookie, so he can't let up. Especially because, instead of battling for an open spot, he is trying to convince the team to keep five edge rushers. Be watching to see what he does for an encore.
CB Decamerion Richardson
Richardson was in the thick of the competition at cornerback, but missed the preseason opener for the birth of his child. While he was away, those with whom he is competing had a rough outing. Can he fare any better? He's had a good camp so far, so putting it on the field in a game would go a long way to that end.
S Treydan Stukes
He hasn't shown up much either in camp or the preseason. And if the second round rookie is to see any extended playing time, he will need to start making plays. In camp, he has seen mostly second team duties at safety and at nickel. Where he plays and how he plays at that position could signal what his role will be this season.
