Bengals News: C.J. Uzomah calls it a career

As tight end C.J. Uzomah calls it a career, we take some time to remember his time with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was one of the biggest leaders in the 2021 season, and as early as the beginning of the year, he was saying, “Why not us?” when competing for a championship.
That 2021 season was one no Bengals fans will forget. Truly one of the best times to be a fan of this team.
He was taken in the fifth round of the 2015 draft. He didn’t start to see a major role on offense until 2018. After his best year with the team in 2021, he went to the New York Jets for two seasons before landing with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, where he got a Super Bowl ring playing a depth role.

Easily one of his most memorable games was the team’s coming-out party against the Baltimore Ravens in 2021. Here are the highlights from that game:

Training Camp Report: C.J. Uzomah Returns To His Who-Dey Home To Retire, But He’ll Be Around
Now Uzomah is no longer a Bengals’ trivia question. He’s part of the fabric with the news that he’ll begin retirement as a contributor to Bengals media this season. Uzomah is slated to be a guest host with Dan Hoard on Bengals Weekly in a rotating role with Tony Pike and Joe Danneman. He’ll also be working on selected radio shows during the week. The Bengals put it out there, and Uzomah went for it even though he always thought no one wanted to hear his voice.
Uzomah will make a very entertaining media person. He certainly has the personality from it, but even during his time with the team, you could tell that he knew the game very well.
2026 Cincinnati Bengals: Projecting final 53-man roster
Meyers, the former CFL signee, was impressive throughout training camp and made a strong impression on everyone in the building. That gives him the edge over Charlie Jones, who is one of the best returners in the NFL.
53-man roster predictions are going to be spicy this year. Looking at the wide receiver, defensive tackle and tight end rooms alone are probably three of the tightest contests we’ve seen in years for roster spots.
Bengals Could Fix Big Weakness With Recently Released Free Agent
The Arizona Cardinals waived Trey Benson with an injury designation on Monday. If Benson clears waivers, he will revert to Arizona’s injured reserve. The Bengals should at least consider placing a claim on the former third-round pick.
The running back depth could be better. Benson likely reverting back to the Cardinals with an injury designation certainly seems like a very likely outcome. This team does not like to gamble on players who have had availability issues in the NFL. That being said, he would be a great running mate with Chase Brown down the road.

Christian McCaffrey: Absence from practices was ‘part of the plan from the jump’
With McCaffrey sitting out practices, rumors began to fly. From questions about his injury status to speculation that his absence was contract-related. Interestingly, the 49ers’ brass could have simply said the RB’s absence was a plan of sorts from the beginning, but did not. McCaffrey dismissed the stories and noted that sometimes he needs to be protected from his own competitive nature.
McCaffrey hitting the field again is great news. You have to hope this guy can put it together at least one more time for an entire season. He is definitely getting towards the end of his time in the NFL, but he might have one good year left to go out with a bang.
NFL Network: Patriots agree to trade WR Kayshon Boutte to Texans
The Texans are acquiring wideout Kayshon Boutte in a trade with the New England Patriots, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday. Houston is sending safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick to New England in exchange for Boutte.
A player for player trade happening might give some inspiration for Cincinnati to pull the trigger with all these quality players they could be forced to cut. But the Texans may have gotten slightly better, which is noteworthy if the Bengals return to being a competitor.
Mike McCarthy: Steelers at contract ‘impasse’ with CB Joey Porter Jr.
Porter is in the final season of the four-year deal he signed after the Steelers selected him with the first pick of the second round in 2023. While Pittsburgh has locked up other members of that draft class — including outside linebacker Nick Herbig and tight end Darnell Washington — Porter’s status seems a little more uncertain.
What a poverty franchise. Can you imagine your team not paying a top player at their position? Man the Rooney family is really struggling with money, huh? No wonder this team doesn’t have a franchise quarterback. What quarterback would willingly stay as they fight their best players over contracts?
