See the full story · 1 sourcesMarana (Ariz.) football star Sean Roebuck Jr. is recovering after suffering multiple injuries as a result of an automobile accident that occurred over the weekend. Roebuck is expected to miss his senior season.
On Monday, Toby Bourguet, founder and coach of Tucson Turf Elite, shared an update, stating that Roebuck sustained a C7 spinal fracture, a broken collarbone, multiple broken ribs, a fractured right eye socket, a broken jaw, and a small liver laceration.
The spinal fracture does not require surgery, but the fractured eye socket required plastic surgery. The liver laceration is also being monitored. Roebuck was sedated and intubated, but according to Bourguet, he is moving his extremities and responding well to tests.
“Considering the severity of the accident, we know without a doubt that God had His hand on Lil Sean and was protecting him,” Bourguet said. “There is so much we are thankful for right now. Thank you so much for every prayer, text, call, and all the love you have shown our family. Please keep praying for Sean and for the doctors as they make decisions about the next steps.”
Roebuck is the latest in a long line of athletes in his family to play for Marana. His older brother, Dezmen , was a three-star wide receiver prospect who’s now entering his second season at Washington this fall. His father, Sean Jr., recently resigned as Marana head boys basketball coach, ending a long tenure. Multiple other family members starred for the Arizona school before going on to college.
From a football standpoint, the loss of Roebuck is a major blow to Marana, which is set to begin its 2026 season later this month on Aug. 27. Earlier this month, head coach Phillip Steward was set to resign from his post, but quickly had a change of heart and remains at the helm for the program this fall. Steward has been the Tigers’ head coach since 2021, putting together a 42-14 overall record, which included a 10-2 record last year.
