NFL declines comment on Aaron Rodgers’ NFL Playoff illness reveal
Aaron Rodgers wasn’t feeling well when the Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Houston Texans in the NFL playoffs. Rodgers revealed he had been battling flu-like symptoms during the game in an interview with The Athletic. According to Rodgers, he had been sent home at one point because he “ was pale and looked like s–t .”
While Rodgers doesn’t blame the mysterious illness for the loss, it does beg the question of why the public – specifically, the betting public – wasn’t made aware of his condition.
Pro Football Talk reached out to the NFL about Rodgers’ claim and the league declined comment.
It seems that no one wants to talk about Aaron Rodgers these days. Earlier this week Rodgers went on “The Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN and went scorched earth on ESPN . ESPN had no comment either. When Steelers’ coach Mike McCarthy was asked about Rodgers’ comments on McAfee, he decided to stick to football .
In this case, the big issue is the fact that the Steelers were in a playoff game with a guy who wasn’t 100% and didn’t tell anyone. Since gambling is deeply intertwined with everything the NFL does these days people need up-to-date information. Otherwise, why wager their hard-earned money?
Whether Rodgers believes he was compromised physically in that game or not, he threw for 146 yards. The Steelers did not score an offensive touchdown. They also didn’t have a single drive longer than 23 yards over the final three quarters of the game. And uncharacteristically , his final throw of the game was returned for a pick-six.
You can bet that anyone with money on the Steelers in that game would have liked to have known that the quarterback was in such rough shape earlier in the day that the team had sent him back to his hotel room.
As PFT noted, the Falcons and then coach Arthur Smith were fined a combined $100,000 for not disclosing Bijan Robinson’s illness ahead of a game in 2023.
