Breaking down Louisiana softball's transfer portal pickups ahead of 2027
Year two for Louisiana softball under head coach Alyson Habetz wasn’t exactly what it had hoped for following a 29-27 overall finish this past spring.
Another second-round exit in the Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament marked the end to the season. The Cajuns lost five players to the transfer portal and graduated five from the 2026 roster, leaving Habetz and the rest of her staff with some work to do in the summer.
After days of silence from the Cajuns in the transfer portal, they landed their first commitment June 20, marking one of three portal pickups. Retention and new weapons will be key for Habetz and her staff as they are chomping at the bit to curate a roster they hope can deliver up to Cajun culture and standards.
Louisiana softball's Power 4 pickups
Ushering in the new class of new faces in Lafayette joining from the portal was pitcher KG Favors from South Carolina. Listed at 5-foot-8, the Alabama native made 13 appearances with the Gamecocks, starting in three of those appearances. Favors went 2-0 in the circle striking out 15 batters as a freshman.
Before starting her collegiate career in South Carolina, Favors was breaking records in Alabama at Orange Beach High School. In 2024, Favors finished 22-1 in the circle ranking eleventh in all-time in AHSAA history for winning percentage. She recorded 15 shutouts with a 0.77 ERA and 197 strikeouts.
The Cajuns rounded out their portal pickups with another player hailing from a Power 4 conference program in catcher Danika Spinogatti of Florida State. The former Seminole, redshirted her freshman year, meaning her collegiate debut will be in Vermilion and White.
Spinogatti was ranked the No. 29 overall player in the Class of 2025 by Extra Innings Softball, following a decorated career at Montverde Academy in Florida. She closed out her prep career with a .485 batting average along with 40 RBIs and eight home runs. Spinogatti left her mark at Montverde, as the program's all-time leader in four major categories: RBI (116), doubles (34), home runs (15) and walks (91).

A bit of portal revenge
Before Habetz took the reins of her alma mater, current Texas Tech softball head coach Gerry Glasco was at the helm. With Glasco’s departure to the Red Raiders came heaps of former UL players joining him to play in Lubbock. Since then, Habetz has been rebuilding the Cajuns’ roster and this offseason she was able to snag a former Red Raider commit, infielder Angelyna Conde.
Conde marked the Cajuns’ second portal pickup after beginning her career at Texas Tech. The incoming sophomore played in three games for the Red Raiders last season under Glasco, where they finished as NCAA Softball Tournament runner-ups, losing against Texas. She ended her freshman campaign with a run and a walk with two at-bats.
In high school, Conde was a star hailing from La Miranda High School in California. She played in 109 games, recording 110 hits, 20 doubles, 19 home runs and 88 RBI throughout her four-year prep career.
Along with being a solid slugger, Conde can play at multiple positions on the infield including third base and first base.
Habetz and her staff aren’t done yet as the recruits continue to roll in this offseason and they look to produce a squad that can redeem the Cajuns from last season’s finish.
