3 Jaguars defenders who need fast starts to training camp
Every player wants to hit the ground running and start the new season fast once training camp begins. But for which Jacksonville Jaguars players is this a must?
The reasons a strong training camp showing is vital can vary from player to player, but all three of these defensive players require a quick start once practices begin.

DE Wesley Williams
While Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker will lead the way at defensive end, this is a heavily rotated position group, with four or five players seeing regular snaps. One of those players expected to fill a key rotational role is rookie Wesley Williams.
Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile is very bullish on Williams' play style and ability to bring a well-rounded skill set to the defensive front.
His ability to hit the ground running and make a quick impact as a rookie will help determine how disruptive the Jaguars' defensive end unit as a whole can be.
LB Ventrell Miller
Throughout the offseason, Miller has been the presumed starting linebacker for the Jaguars following Devin Lloyd's departure, and he will enter training camp as the favorite.
However, potentially pushing Miller for those snaps will be Branson Combs . If Miller is unable to get off to a fast start, that will only further open up opportunities for Combs to insert himself and make this a true competition.
Miller had a very strong showing during last summer's training camp, which resulted in him and Lloyd being listed as co-starters on the team's first depth chart. Then, as Lloyd began to take off, he secured that starting role. He'll look to replicate that performance this year.
"I think one of the things he brings to our defense is a physicality in the run game and having been around a few guys like that in the past, I think we got a really good feel for how he fits in and how to use him and really trying to play within his strengths within the defense," Campanile said.
DT Ruke Orhohoro
Orhorhoro brings an added pass rush presence to the Jaguars' defensive tackle position. A former second-round pick, Orhorhoro's raw production totals won't jump off the stat sheet. But his role increased last season, and he logged four sacks and 30 quarterback pressures, while ranking 51st out of 121 eligible defensive tackles in PFF's pass rush productivity metric.
A greater pass rush presence from the defensive tackle position is a must for the Jaguars this season. A quick push and steady pressure from the interior defensive line unit is the best way to quickly wreck an offensive play, and when that happens consistently, every defender on the field benefits from it.
Getting more regular pressure on the quarterback from the tackle position will help the defense reach new heights in 2026.
