There's no way a two-time defending state champion in West Boca Raton (FL) was not going to lose in back-to-back weeks.
That's something that hasn't happened under coach Dylan Potts in his fifth season leading the program.
The Bulls (1-0) went on the road and stunned American Heritage, ranked 23rd in the USA TODAY Super 25, beating the Patriots 24-7 in Plantation on Friday, Aug. 21.
West Boca made things awfully tough for Texas 5-star QB commit Neimann Lawrence, who threw a pair of interceptions. The Patriots started the night with three straight three-and-outs, being forced to come back from a multi-score deficit midway through the second quarter.
For the second straight game, senior QB Trey Moran impressed against national competition, accounting for a pair of touchdown passes and a third rushing touchdown, which made it 21-0 at the 6:07 mark of the third quarter.
Heritage's lone touchdown came with 2:46 to go in the third, as running back Tremaine Mullen punched one in from 2 yards out to cut the deficit to 21-7.
In a must-have-it situation, West Boca picked off Lawrence with nine minutes to play in the fourth, as Max Reid jumped a route over the middle to hold a three-score lead.
