Silver Lake has championship ambitions ahead of 2026 season
SILVER LAKE ( KSNT ) — The Eagles are looking to bring a state title back to Silver Lake.
It's been 13 years since the Eagles last won a state title, and they are hungry to return to the top.
"It's been 13 years since we hung one, and it's a tradition here to win, and that a big goal we always have," Camden Kruger said, a senior wide receiver and cornerback for the Eagles.
Silver Lake went 6-2 in the regular season in 2025 but were far from satisfied with the result.
"Personally, I wasn't satisfied with what we did last year, losing in the second round," junior left guard and defensive tackle Kendrick Vande Velde told 27 Sports. "I think we've all got that in our gut that we're going to go farther than we ever have."
In order to return the school to its championship pedigree, the Eagles are embracing a 'winning mentality' throughout camp.
"I'd like to take credit for it but at the end of the day, a lot of their dads played in this program, a lot of their grandpas, and a lot of kids that maybe came here when they were in grade school," head coach Logan Pegram said. "[They] understand that expectations are high, and they do a good job of leaning into that."
The Eagles will open up their season on the road this season, but that doesn't change the goal for week one — to win.
"The goal at St. Marys week one, definitely to win, and have fun," senior linebacker and left tackle Myles Fisher told 27 Sports.
"We're hoping to come out with the 'dub' and keep the streak going," Owen Rottinghaus added, a senior receiver and saftey.
The road matchup at St. Mary's on Sept. 4 is slated to start at 7 p.m.
