Jalen Carter secured a massive four-year, $152 million contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.
The deal includes $106 million guaranteed, and is worth up to $160 million with incentives. It's the richest defensive tackle contract in NFL history in terms of both guaranteed money and annual value.
Only one other player on the Eagles' roster makes more yearly cash than Carter — quarterback Jalen Hurts.
When asked about Carter's extension on Wednesday, Hurts shared his reaction and explained a funny gesture he had for the wealthy 25-year-old defensive tackle.
"I'm excited for him. For one, congratulations," Hurts said. "My wife put a five-dollar bill in my backpack, a little inside joke between her and I.
"I took that five-dollar bill, and I went and gave it to Jalen Carter, and I smacked it on his chest, and I said, 'Let me put five on top of that.'"
Carter was later asked about this interaction with Hurts.
"I said if he would have signed it, it'd probably be worth $500," Carter said after heaping praise on his quarterback, referring to him as a "big brother" figure.
The Eagles will kickoff their 2026 NFL regular-season schedule with a matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sept. 13.
