Patriots' AJ Brown Shrugs off Practice Injury: 'Is What It Is

Brown, who is taking part in his first training camp at One Patriot Place, dislocated his thumb during the early portion of practice on Monday -- though he didn't miss any time and continued on to score three touchdowns throughout the remainder of the session before joking about it with NFL Media's Mike Garafolo and Brian Baldinger.
"It's tough, but I try to get back into that flow state really quickly," Brown said in an appearance on "Inside Training Camp Live."
"Obviously you're going to be in some pain, but the game is what it is. I know it's practice, but I'm not coming out of practice. If the thumb is out of place, you keep going. I dislocated the same thumb in college... I played the rest of the season. I'll do a little treatment on it."
Brown revealed that he previously suffered the same injury at Ole Miss in 2018, though he never missed any time and finished the season with more receptions (85), receiving yards (1,320), and receiving touchdowns (6) on the team despite playing alongside DK Metcalf, Elijah Moore, and Dawson Knox.
It's probably not going to be an issue moving forward...
The Patriots certainly hope so, anyway, as he's expected to be the top target for third-year quarterback Drake Maye. If he is, you can certainly say that he would be worth the price tag of a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round draft pick -- you just need to hope a dislocated thumb is the worst thing they deal with.
