The wildly popular series of novels, which began over two decades ago, is finally getting some huge adaptations. That includes, as was just announced, an original video game.
Trailmark Games and the Coolabi Group released a trailer today for Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest , the first video game the series has ever received. The short trailer lasts just under a minute, but gives players a pretty clear idea of what to expect. The game will be a turn-based RPG starring a character-created protagonist. Players will have the option of choosing between four different clans, each with their own story (sort of like Fire Emblem: Three Houses ). The game's plot will be shaped by player choice and which relationships players invest in.
The description for Clans of the Forest teases that the game will feature iconic cats from the novels as well as original characters. Players will also explore locations from the books, including the Moonpool and the Island. Those specific places are in the lake territories, which indicates the game will take place at some point after the events of 2005's Dawn . That doesn't narrow down when Clans of the Forest takes place, since almost every book after Dawn has also been set in the lake territories. Perhaps most surprisingly, players won't have to wait long to enjoy the game as it is set to be released this fall.
That's not all Warrior Cats fans have to look forward to. In 2024, Coolabi Group announced that an animated series was in production in partnership with Tencent Video. This June, Disney announced it had picked the show up for distribution on Disney Plus and Disney Channel. The series is slated for release in 2028.
The Warrior Cats series was initially created by Victoria Holmes for publisher HarperCollins. The initial arc, which comprises the first six books, was written by Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry under the name Erin Hunter. The writing team has expanded over the years as the series continues to grow. There are currently over fifty mainline books, with more still being written.
