Investigators said the unidentified man's body was discovered along the banks of Buffalo Bayou in the 2200 block of Nance Street shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday. It remains unclear how he died. Police said the body was in an "advanced state of decomposition" and showed no obvious signs of trauma.
Tuesday's discovery comes just a day after another man's body was recovered from a Houston-area bayou.
Houston police said officers were called to the 6300 block of the Gulf Freeway around 10:10 a.m. Monday, after receiving a report of a person in the water. Members of HPD's Dive Team responded and recovered the man's body after KHOU reported that witnesses saw a person struggling in Brays Bayou before authorities were called.
The two discoveries also came roughly two weeks after a woman's partially burned body was found near the Gulf Freeway on July 29.
According to HPD, a crew mowing grass in the 8100 block of the Gulf Freeway discovered the woman's body around 9 a.m. Investigators described her as a Black woman with a star tattoo on her hand and said an autopsy would determine how she died.
The recent discoveries add to a growing number of bodies recovered from Houston-area bayous this year.
Last year, forensic investigators documented more than 30 people whose bodies were recovered from Houston-area bayous, with causes of death ranging from drug-related drownings to blunt-force trauma—and a number of cases that remained unresolved.
Authorities have not publicly established a connection between the recent deaths, and autopsy results remain pending in all three cases.
