Arsenal agree deal to sign Cardiff City wonderkid – Romano

Arsenal have reportedly secured another exciting young talent, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirming the Gunners have agreed a deal to sign Cardiff City teenager Axel Donczew.

Romano revealed on Sunday evening that the 16-year-old has already completed his medical ahead of the move, posting his trademark “Here We Go!” to signal that the transfer is effectively complete.

Donczew became Cardiff City’s youngest ever player in the EFL Trophy in October 2025, now set to sign for Arsenal this week.

The update represents another impressive addition to Arsenal’s academy as the club continue investing heavily in some of Britain’s brightest young prospects.

Arsenal moving quickly after earlier interest

This latest development follows reports earlier this month linking Arsenal with Donczew , with the Gunners being among several clubs monitoring the highly-rated youngster.

Donczew has earned an excellent reputation at Cardiff City and is regarded as one of the club’s standout academy prospects. Arsenal’s long-standing commitment to recruiting and developing elite young players made them an attractive destination for the teenager.

The move also draws comparisons with Aaron Ramsey’s journey almost two decades ago, when Arsenal signed another highly-rated teenage midfielder from Cardiff before he developed into one of the Premier League’s finest players.

Another investment in Arsenal’s future

While supporters naturally focus on first-team arrivals, Arsenal have continued strengthening their academy under Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta.

The club’s pathway from Hale End into the senior squad remains one of the strongest in English football, with youngsters regularly training alongside the first team before making the step up when ready.

Donczew is unlikely to feature in first-team plans immediately, but the expectation will be for the Welsh youngster to continue his development in North London with the aim of eventually following that same pathway.

With Romano now giving the transfer his famous “Here We Go!”, it appears Arsenal have beaten the competition to secure one of Cardiff City’s brightest young talents.
