The Chicago Bears had a rough showing in their preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, falling 27-9, where all three phases struggled.
The Bears were held without a touchdown and held scoreless in the second half, mustering just three Cairo Santos field goals on the night. Meanwhile, Chicago's defense allowed 282 passing yards and three touchdowns. The Bears were atrocious on third down, converting just twice on 14 attempts, while also racking up 11 penalties for 81 yards. Chicago also went 0-for-2 in the red zone.
There were a number of good and bad performances in this win, as players look to push for a roster spot or a starting job. Here are the best and worst performers, according to Pro Football Focus :
Best offense grades
WR Maurice Alexander: 87.3
RT Darnell Wright: 83.3
TE Colston Loveland: 77.1
WE JP Richardson: 74.3
LG Jordan McFadden: 70.6
Maurice Alexander led the Bears with five receptions for 60 yards, catching all five balls thrown his way. Darnell Wright only saw action in one series, but he allowed zero sacks and zero pressures in three passing reps and was impressive in run blocking reps. Colston Loveland had just one catch for 10 yards on three targets, including a potential big gain that fell incomplete due to miscommunication with Caleb Williams. JP Richardson had an overall rough outing for Chicago, although he had five receptions for 48 yards on offense, including an impressive completion from Case Keenum that led to a field goal before halftime. Jordan McFadden saw action with Joe Thuney resting, and he succeeded in pass protection (allowing zero sacks and zero pressures) in limited action.

Braxton Jones is the presumed frontrunner in the left tackle competition, but he didn't have the best showing against the Bengals with the starters. Jones graded low both in pass blocking and run blocking, where he allowed one hurry, one pressure and committed a costly holding penalty that stalled a scoring drive. Qadir Ismail had zero catches on two targets. Stephen Carlson also failed to get in the box score on his one target. Wesley French struggled in pass protection, allowing one pressure and one hurry, and wasn't much better in run blocking. Kaden Davis, a standout from preseason Week 1, wasn't involved on offense and had zero catches on one target.

Skyler Thomas totaled two tackles and one pass breakup, and he also accounted for the lone takeaway of the game when he picked off Sean Clifford. Deantre Prince totaled one tackle and one pass breakup. Jordan van den Berg had an impressive showing, where he was disruptive within the interior and totaled three tackles. Wayne Matthews led the Bears with eight total tackles, including six solo tackles. Jamree Kromah, who was a standout in Week 1, combined for a sack with Daniel Hardy, but it was negated due to a defensive holding penalty.

Ruben Hyppolite had a rough showing after an encouraging preseason debut, but he did have seven total tackles, the second most for Chicago, but for struggled mightily with tackling, as well as run defense and coverage. Marlen Sewell totaled one tackle but was marked down in coverage and pass rush. Neville Gallimore totaled three tackles and one QB hit, but he struggled in run defense. Jon Rhattigan failed to get in the box score as was marked down for his tackling. Malik Muhammad, who saw action in the slot, totaled one tackle but had some struggles in coverage.
