Lucas Höler netted in Freiburg's 5-1 German Cup first-round win at Fortuna Dusseldorf on Sunday and then hot-footed it to a plane to try to return home for the birth of his child.
"There is no helicopter but the plane leaves in an hour so we have to hurry anyway. We can fly to Freiburg. So we should get going now, hopefully I'll still make it," Höler told reporters. He is expecting his second child with his partner.
The 32-year-old missed Thursday's 3-1 win in the first leg of the Conference League play-off at Motherwell because of the imminent birth. He said he did not want to risk missing it because of possible difficulties making a short-notice return from Scotland.
Höler hopes to play in the second leg on Thursday in Freiburg as a father of two.
