The real collector's item 32,602 fans left the ballpark with was seeing Washington beat Cincinnati Reds All-Star starting pitcher Chase Burns in the manner the Nationals beat him.

The hard-hitting Nationals downed the Reds 8-2 to take the first two games of the series. Against Burns, Washington posted five runs on six hits, plus three walks and just six strikeouts as Burns lasted 5 1/3 innings.
It was the third time in 2026 that a team scored five earned runs on Burns, who saw the last three runs against him score after he was lifted from the game in favor of left-handed reliever Sam Moll.
Burns allowed four total earned runs in the entire month of May (four starts, 4-0). He allowed just six earned runs in July (three starts, 3-0).
Cincinnati's defeat marked just the sixth loss in 22 Burns starts this season. The team is 16-6 in his outings.
The score was 3-0 when Burns walked off the mound, but he left the game with the bases loaded for Moll. Two further runs crossed on an ensuing Andres Chapparro double, which closed the book on Burns. Another run was plated later in the sixth inning on a Jacob Young single, but Moll was responsible for it.
The Reds pulled even at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning on Eugenio Suárez's second homer in as many nights, but the tie was short-lived.
For Burns (13-2), the loss deprived him of a chance to notch a 13th consecutive winning decision. That would have made Reds history as the feat hadn't been accomplished by a Cincinnati pitcher since Brooks Lawrence in 1956.
The streak of 12 consecutive winning decisions still marks the fifth-longest in franchise history.
Cincinnati will attempt to salvage a game from the series Aug. 9 at Nationals Park when Brady Singer (5-10, 4.67 ERA) starts in the scheduled 12:15 p.m. contest. The Nationals hadn't announced their starter as of post-game Aug. 8.
