In addition to running back Isaa Guerendo, tight end George Kittle, and defensive end Mykel Williams who are on the PUP list, the 49ers had 21 players who either didn’t participate in practice on Sunday or left early with an injury.
WhileSan Francisco will likely get most of those players back by Week 1 when they play the Los Angeles Rams in Australia, there’s also a chance they could get back one of their top playmakers.
Kittle has been feverishly working his way back from a torn Achilles in the playoffs, and there’s a chance he could be healthy enough to play in the season opener.
“I have a chance [to play],” Kittle told reporters on Sunday . “We’re running around a lot, {hitting] top speeds — hopefully we’re back in pads again practicing sooner rather than later. Just trying to check the boxes and not be a dumb [expletive].”
When healthy, Kittle is one of the best tight ends in the NFL .
Injuries limited him to 11 games last season — he caught 57 passes for 628 yards and seven touchdowns — but he’d played in 14 or more games in seven of the previous eight seasons.
Given how important Kittle is to San Francisco’s offensive success, it’s highly unlikely he or the team will rush him back before he’s fully healthy.
