Chicago Bears LT Ozzy Trapilo is significantly ahead of schedule when it comes to returning from a serious injury he suffered in last year’s playoffs.
Trapilo injured his patellar tendon during the closing moments of the Bears’ Wild Card round playoff victory over the Green Bay Packers on January 10. Most expected that he would miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season.
Sports Illustrated ’s Albert Breer mentioned yesterday that he had heard that Trapilo “might be back sooner than expected” while attending Bears training camp recently.
Well, it turns out that report wasn’t an exaggeration. In fact, Trapilo’s pending return could be sooner than even the most idealistic of prognosticators may have predicted.
Bears GM Ryan Poles told the Hoge and Jahns podcast that Trapilo could “potentially” be back prior to the end of training camp. As in, this year’s training camp.

Poles: Yeah, we’ve talked about the different scenarios. Whether he comes back and has a little bit of training camp. If he comes back in September. I think the big thing for us is padded practices. If you get too far down the line, it’s really hard to get that physical practice that you need to prepare for games. So we’ve kind of looked at that on the calendar and want to map that out for him so that he feels confident coming back. So yeah we kinda map that out, and hopefully he’s able to capture some of those padded practices.
Hoge: So training camp is still on the table sounds like?
Poles: Potentially.
