A Nun With A Gun Is Everyone’s Favorite Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Character
There was a whole lot of new information revealed in the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct showcase today. The game will let you play through the stories of its four heroes simultaneously, the game's true protagonist is Eshmel, and there are a bunch of time-travel-related story shenanigans. But shut up about all that right now because those funny fuckers over at Intelligent Systems added guns to the game.
And not twee, fantasy-style guns like those pistols with the big, rounded butts, or blunderbusses with flared muzzles. Straight up firearms out of a Cabela's catalog. Look at that shit. That's a Glock:
So far only one character has been shown with that thang on her, Anatolia, and she's been swiftly renamed "nun with a gun" by the fandom. There's also only one type of gun revealed, known as a salamander. Hopefully there will be more, with Intelligent Systems going even further, adding shotguns and rifles. If you're gonna break down the fantasy veneer of the game, might as well full-send it. As far as I can tell, this is the first time guns will be a weapon type in franchise history, and fans have latched onto this tidbit.

What makes this hilarious anachronistic addition even funnier is that the game categorizes guns as gauntlets—the kind of weapon you equip on your fists and go punch people with. Gauntlets, while technically a melee weapon, allow characters to more easily evade attacks. I guess equipping a gun-type gauntlet should mean you'll be able to evade at range. Typically in Fire Emblem games, there's a weapon hierarchy that dictates the strengths and weaknesses of weapon types. A sword beats an axe but is weak to a spear and so forth. How guns fit into that will be interesting to see because their ranged properties should allow them to shoot down flying enemies, but they're also gauntlets that should convey hand-to-hand advantages.
Fortune's Weave is going to be the best fire emblem because you get a Fucking Gun
The sudden appearance of guns is hilarious. I'm looking forward to seeing how they work in the game, though I doubt it'll be a cool as what we've seen in trailers.
