If he genuinely believes this could be “the right moment” for a fresh challenge, that is not something supporters can completely dismiss.
At the same time, there is still a strong argument for Liverpool keeping him. He is experienced, versatile, and capable of producing goals from the left or through the middle. Across a long season, particularly with injuries already affecting attacking depth, players like Gakpo become extremely important. You do not win major honours with only eleven starters, you need options who can change games and cover multiple roles.
The mention of Rio Ngumoha is exciting, but supporters should be careful about placing too much pressure on a teenager too soon. If Liverpool see him as the future on the left, that is promising, but it does not mean Gakpo suddenly becomes expendable.
So the uncertainty for fans is understandable. If the player pushes, the conversation changes. If he stays committed, Liverpool are stronger for it.
