A look back at the 1942 season for the Cardinals
The Cardinals went 3-8 in 1942, losing their final six games of the season, starting what would be a 29-game losing streak over parts of four seasons.
They won their first two games, and all three of their wins were shutouts.
They averaged only 8.9 points per game that season, which was the second-lowest total. They gave up 19.0 points per game, which was seventh in the 10-team league.
They scored seven or fewer points in seven of their 11 games.
1942 individual honors, leaders
Receiver Pop Ivy was the Cardinals' only All-Star, which was what the Pro Bowl was before it was called the Pro Bowl.
Bud Schwenk was the Cardinals' leading passer. He attempted 295 passes, the most in the NFL and passed for 1,360 yards, six touchdowns, and he led the NFL with 27 interceptions.
Schwenk was second on the team with 313 rushing yards. His two rushing touchdowns led the team. Marshall Goldberg led the team with 369 rushing yards and scored once. Goldberg also led the NFL averging 26.1 yards per kick return and returned one for a touchdown.
Ivy had a team-leading 27 catches for 259 yards, but Steve Lach's 261 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions led the team on 18 receptions.
Johnny Martin picked off six passes on defense to lead the team.
