According to a report from ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Mets are dealing left-handed reliever A.J. Minter to the Twins in exchange for prospects Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick. The Athletic's Will Sammon was the first to report the Mets' return.
Minter was in final year of his two-year, $22 million contract with the Mets. After missing the majority of the 2025 season with a torn late, Minter returned in late May and has notched a 1-1 record with a 2.35 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 23 innings this season.
Amick is a 23-year-old corner infield prospect and the Twins' No. 23 prospect according to the MLB Pipeline. Agbayani, who is the son of former Met Benny Agbayani, is a 19-year-old middle infield prospect and the Twins' 29th-ranked prospect in their system.
Amick was drafted by the Twins in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Tennessee. In 86 games in Double-A Wichita this season, the right-handed hitter is slashing .217/.338/.482 with 23 home runs, 72 RBI, 60 runs, 14 doubles and 108 strikeouts in 86 games.
Agbayani was drafted by the Twins in the fifth round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of Hawaii. He has played in only 10 games in Single-A Fort Myers this season, going 11-for-41 (.268) with three doubles, six RBI and 12 runs.
Minter is the first in a long series of dominoes that are due to fall at the deadline, with fellow left-hander Brooks Raley and right-hander Freddy Peralta among the names who are likely to move. Raley and Peralta are both on expiring deals, along with the likes of Tyrone Taylor. Luis Robert Jr. has a club option and Clay Holmes has a $12 million player option.
Luke Weaver and Huascar Brazoban are both under team control but could be coveted by a contending team.
