The facility is the largest US military base in the region.Qatar said the Iranian pilots entered its airspace during the operation and failed to respond to attempts by Qatari authorities to establish contact. Al-Ansari said Qatar subsequently took “the necessary measures” to defend its territory in accordance with international law.Iran had previously described some of the pilots involved in the incident as missing.Iran's army said last month that it had recovered the body of Iranian pilot Majid Kazemi, who was killed during an attack on Al Udeid in early March.The latest Iranian claims, therefore, mark a significant escalation in the dispute over the fate of the pilots, with Tehran alleging they survived and were captured, while Qatar says its search teams recovered the remains of one pilot.The allegations come against the backdrop of continuing diplomatic efforts to prevent another escalation in the region.
